Types of Sedation Dentistry

There are several different types of Sedation Dentistry that can be used during your visit.

  1. Oral Sedation – Oral Sedation involves the use of an oral sedative pill to reduce anxiety. Oral Sedation is more suitable for short-term dental procedures.
  2. Nitrous Sedation – Also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is administered using a mask on the patient’s face. The use of nitrous sedation helps you to relax while remaining co-operative.  Nitrous sedation is preferred for mild to moderate anxieties and wears off quickly so you can resume your activities shortly after the procedure.
  3. IV Sedation – IV (intravenous) sedation is recommended for patients with high anxiety. IV Sedation requires special preparation and licensing by your dentist, who will monitor your vital signs during the procedure to ensure everything goes well. IV Sedation is preferred when large dental procedures need completing to ensure they are finished quickly.
